Real puffins

What the puffins would have looked like bringing the wolf brigade food.

are any of three small species of alcids auks in the bird genus Fratercula, with a brightly colored beak during the breeding season. These are pelagic zone seabirds that feed primarily by diving in the water. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs or offshore islands, nesting in crevices among rocks or in burrows in the soil. Two species, the Tufted Puffin and Horned Puffin, are found in the North Pacific Ocean, while the Atlantic Puffin is found in the North Atlantic Ocean.

All puffin species have predominantly black or black and white plumage, a stocky build, and large beaks. They shed the colorful outer parts of their bills after the breeding season, leaving a smaller and duller beak. Their short wings are adapted for swimming with a flying technique under water. In the air, they beat their wings rapidly (up to 400 times per minute) in swift flight, often flying low over the ocean's surface.

Puffins appear in Ga'Hoole books and Beyond Books, when Soren meets Dumpy. They lived in the Ice Talons, which is very far from the wolves of the Beyond. Being so far away, no wolves visit the Ice Talons. However, some also live on the way to the Distant Blue.

Since they care only about fishing, most owls call them as dumb birds. They only know 3 colors-black and white, the color of their feathers and orange, the color of their beaks. However

Another depiction of a puffin.

there was a puffin named Dumpy who was smart for his species and was useful to teach puffins about warfare by using frozen fish as weapons. This was probable because he may be the descendant of the Puffowl, a hideous owl-puffin crossbreed made by the mad scientist Kreeth. Another hagsfiend told him to give Kreeth's secrets in turn for being turned into an owl or a puffin. He may have been turned into a puffin but retained the owl's brain.

Star Wolf

Puffins spot the "brigade" crossing the Ice Bridge. They stop by and ask them a few questions. When the wolves ask their names, the puffins reply that they've "evolved" and introduce themselves as Dumpette and Dumpster. Throughout the animals' journey the puffins fish for them, bringing the group small catches.
